The L.A. Times descends into civil war!
Never needs changing. Like a fluorescent bulb! ... 5:48 P.M. Dissing the Disgruntled! Grazer-Gate Update: A summary of the L.A.Times' second-time-farce scandal is here. The most recent at-bats ... Resigned editorial page editor Andres Martinez says the paper's newly-arrived editor and publisher caved to a disgruntled newsroom that is annoyed at [the paper's owners in] Chicago, annoyed at them and annoyed at the autonomy of the opinion pages. The newsroom unrest, Martinez says, is partly "ideological" (the news pages presumably being more conventionally liberal than his editorial page), partly "a matter of bureaucratic culture," and some of it a personnel matter (there are some embittered former editorial board members that Kinsley and Carroll sent off to the newsroom).
EMC and SAP plan a romp in the clouds
EMC may partner with German software giant SAP to develop a suite of web hosted storage and application services. In an interview with Reuters, SAP executive Doug Merritt said the two companies are in early-stage talks to add SAP's business applications to EMC's burgeoning software-as-a-service (SaaS) storage platform. Both companies are mum on any technical or financial details of the proposed collaboration. But let's look at how things lay. In January, EMC unveiled MozyEnterprise, the first offering in its new hosted software line dubbed "Fortress." The online backup and recovery suite is based on technology acquired from Berkeley Data Systems last October. EMC made sure to point out Mozy is only the first step in expanding the SaaS operation.

Huckabee, Obama Win in Alabama
MONTGOMERY, Ala. Mike Huckabee turned out evangelical voters and Barack Obama captured black and young voters as both won Alabama's presidential primaries Tuesday. Huckabee, a former governor of Arkansas, defeated Arizona Sen. John McCain and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who ran third. Huckabee, with strong appeal to fellow Southern Baptists, earlier won his home state and Georgia. "It's hard for this old Razorback to say 'Roll Tide Roll,' but I'm saying it tonight," Huckabee said. Obama, the Illinois senator, defeated New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, who did not visit Alabama during the closing days of the primary. With more than 90 percent of Alabama's precincts reporting, Huckabee had 41 percent, McCain 38 percent, Romney 18 percent and Ron Paul 3 percent.
'First' iPhone Trojan rolls into town
Hackers have created Trojan horse malware targeted at Apple's much-hyped iPhone device. The package - more of a prank than a threat - poses as an "important system" upgrade supposedly needed prior to upgrading to version 1.1.3 of Apple's firmware. The "iPhone firmware 1.1.3 prep" seems to lack malicious purpose. Problems kick in when users try to uninstall the package. .
Product Recalls
Two major fast-food chains, Jack-In-the-Box and In-N-Out, said they would not use beef from Westland/Hallmark. The recall affects beef products dating back to February 1, 2006. Most of the beef has been eaten and officials say it's unlikely the remaining beef is tainted. No illness has been reported, but it wasn't properly inspected and therefore is unfit for human consumption. The spindles on the drop-side of the crib could come loose, leaving a gap that could potentially trap and strangle a child. The company is voluntarily recalling the cribs and no injuries have been reported.
