New legislation could lead to ISP throttling ban

This wouldn't be happening if consumers weren't getting the service, value, and access to content they desire...These are serious issues for carriers and consumers alike, and we believe a thoughtful and balanced examination will lead to what we already know: Government intervention is not necessary."

PacificaRiptide.com. New local online outlet working in collaboration ...

Pacifica Riptide is a volunteer-run Web site for local news and opinion. It started up a year ago when a group of activists, fresh off their election victory over Measure L, decided that the community needed an Internet base for sharing information. After consulting with several media and technology experts, including Pacifican Larry Rosenstein and Coastsider.com's Barry Parr, we chose Six Apart's Typepad blogging software, which is easy, intuitive, and relatively cheap for a bunch of amateurs to use.

Riptide welcomes contributions of "hot stories, cool pix, and cold cash to keep us afloat," according to the site. "We celebrate Pacifica's natural wonders, green hillsides, open spaces, coastal and marine life, and enterprising people. Our environment and economy are interdependent, natural forces and market forces, like ocean tides and waves."

How Internet Explorer became as wonky as the Leaning Tower of Pisa

It thought it had done this with IE7, released in 2006. But no. On Microsoft's own blogs, Chris Wilson, the IE platform architect who has been on that team for more than a decade, noted the team's surprise at how things didn't get better with IE7:

"In IE7 we made a lot more changes to improve IE's standards compliance, particularly with CSS. We limited these behavior changes to IE's "standards mode" only, and we expected that this would help limit compatibility problems as it had in the past. Unfortunately, and somewhat surprisingly to us, this wasn't true; many of those changes made IE incompatible with content that was already part of the web. It turned out by the time IE7 shipped in late 2006, roughly half of the top 200 US web sites were in "standards mode". Many of those sites had been "opted in" to standards mode by a tool that generated their content; many of them had probably been hand-coded by someone who was trying to do the right thing, and make their HTML code valid according to the W3C [World Wide Web Consortium].

Church choir goes international

The choir is scheduled to give a concert at Down Patrick Cathedral in County Down, where St. Patrick was buried.

Third Creek choir members will also perform at the Stormont parliament building in Belfast.

"It's an honor because not just anybody can go in there," Huddleston says. "This will be the first American church choir ever to sing in Stormont."

Huddleston arranged for Margaret Ritchie, the social development minister for Northern Ireland, to sponsor the group. Minister Ritchie will attend the concert along with a representative of the American consulate. .

Thibault Leads No. 8/8 Women's Ice Hockey Into Final Regular Season ...

In the teams' first meeting in November, New Hampshire defeated the Huskies 8-2 to end UConn's program-best nine-game win streak. As the top two teams in the conference, both programs has already secured a spot in the Hockey East Tournament, while the Wildcats command the top seed with UConn right behind.

UConn is 3-18-3 all-time against New Hampshire dating back to December 2001. In their first meeting on Dec. 1, 2001, UConn defeated the Wildcats 2-0 in Durham but in the last eight games against the Wildcats, UConn is 0-7-1 overall. Last year's 2-0 loss to UNH on March 3 came in the semi-final game of the Hockey East Tournament.

Leading the way for the UConn front line is Thibault, who leads her team with 47 points (23g, 24a), a new program record of points in a single season.
