Abu Dhabi primed to take lead role at EIBTM exhibition in Spain

The emirate will use the three-day trade show to display the results of initiatives taken to transform its conferences and incentives sector. H.E. Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, the ADTA's chairman, said on the eve of the exhibition, that the emirate now had all the components in place to become a leader in the regional incentives and conferences tourism industry. He highlighted the benefits of Abu Dhabi's geographical position, infrastructure, and its outstanding facilities and services and said work was continuing to boost the sector's development by adding further tourism projects and facilities. Sheikh Sultan said an important contributor to efforts to boost the sector had been Abu Dhabi's hosting of the Gulf Incentives, Business Travel and Meetings (GIBTM) in March. This showcased the emirate's superb facilities and infrastructure and confirmed its readiness and ability to host even the biggest trade events.

One dead, 8 hurt in wall collapse

Dr Yadvinder Singh has studied the need-based nitrogen management using chlorophyll meter and leaf curl chart. This technique results in 25 per cent saving in fertiliser application.

Chlorophyll meter is a simple hand-held devise that helps determine the fertiliser requirements of the crop. It is the green pigmentation or the colour of the plant that indicates the fertiliser needs of the crop and chlorophyll meter enables to measure the same.

Similarly, by making use of the leaf curl chart for nitrogen application and management on 2.6 million hectare on which paddy is grown, the farmers can effect saving of around Rs 50 crore.

Dr Yadvinder Singh is the principal investigator of an inter-disciplinary Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research-funded project on management of paddy straw.

Scottsdale collision reports now for sale online

Scottsdale motorists involved in fender benders can now buy instant traffic collision reports online.

The Scottsdale Police Department started offering the service Monday through a partnership with Michigan-based Tracview.com. The collision reports, which will be available for the public to download 24 hours a day, will be available five to 10 business days after a crash.

"We were approached by insurance companies and investigators on obtaining a service like this one for some time," said Scottsdale police records manager Michael Keran. "Convenience was the main piece in our decision. Insurance companies, investigators and citizens can now have the option of downloading the collision reports online as opposed to coming down to the station or requesting by mail."

The reports can be bought online with a credit card for $9.

IN THE OUTDOORS: February offers host of activities

If you are one of those hunters or anglers who thought February was going to give you a chance to catch up on rest before spring fishing, you might want to double check the outdoor calendar.

While the largest and likely most fun event is not open to the public, plenty of outdoor-related activities are available to keep us busy. It starts with the Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade Show and Conference (SHOT Show) in Las Vegas and ends with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation's annual Elk Camp in Reno.

After taking its wares to Orlando, Fla., in 2007, the SHOT Show has come back here and begins Saturday at the Las Vegas Convention Center. This show is the shooting and hunting industry's largest trade show and is not open to the public.

This year marks the show's 30th anniversary, and it's expected to be the largest show to date, with more than 715,000 square feet of exhibit space where buyers from 50 states and 75 countries will be looking for products to put on their shelves or in the pages of their catalogs.

Torsell: Court swayed by bias

On Sept. 26, 2007, a Centre County jury convicted Torsell of vehicular homicide and aggravated assault while driving under the influence, and Centre County Judge Thomas Kistler sentenced him to nearly six years in prison.

"[Stidd's] family wanted him to have his day in court as well," Centre County Assistant District Attorney Steve Sloane said.

Keith McClellan, a Torsell family friend who was in the courtroom the first day of the trial, testified that he noticed the jury members' "furtive glances" toward Stidd as he was wheeled from the courtroom about 10 feet from the closest juror.

"I noticed that Aaron Stidd had been wheeled to the front. There were a number of people milling around him," McClellan said.

Referring to the accident as "a murder that didn't happen," Sloane said he believes the jury was burdened more with sympathy for Torsell, adding that in Stidd's hour in the courtroom, he "looked surprisingly well, relative to what he had been through."

Sloane also cited a note signed unanimously by jurors, asking Kistler to be lenient with Torsell's sentencing.

Geopolitical Rebirth

Everyday more and more people are drawn away from George Bush and pulled towards Noam Chomsky, or Naomi Klein. More people want to know what is really happening and more are looking beyond the mainstream. That is due to the audiovisual reports on CNN. The owners of the media assumed we were stupid, they underestimated the power of collective consciousness and without knowing it, have made us repudiate them. We learned to disgust them for their empty promises and wars presented as acts of peace. They presented us peacekeepers dressed up as soldiers and soon we understood. They talked to us about atomic energy and never disarmed, it didn’t takes us long to react. The same happened with those wars on terrorism, soon we understood they were taking away our rights, airports became intolerable, people kept disappearing, our democratic governments were torturing and all this without fair trials.

Ron Paul Newsletters Become Campaign Fodder

You know, often times (especially of late), I ponder if the Germans in 1933 were as apathetic to the foreboding storm that a minority voice surely tried to articulate. When the purge of this nation arrives (and it's coming), I'll remember those who willfully steered the masses into complacency.

Rockingham Tweaks Its Redistricting Plans

ELKTON — The Rockingham County School Board will hold yet another hearing on school redistricting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 6, at Montevideo Middle School.

This is likely to be more harmonious than earlier hearings, when dozens of parents expressed unhappiness with proposed new district boundaries.

Now, under revisions announced at the Feb. 26 meeting of the Rockingham County Board of Supervisors, substantial revisions to the original plan have been made, reducing many complaints resulting from parents concerning the original plan.

"[Supervisors and the school board] did an outstanding job," said parent Melani Tomasi, a participant in a recent protest group centered on Power Dam Road near McGaheysville.

"The new plan reflected the bulk of concerns; they gave the people what they wanted," added Tomasi, whose children would have been shifted from the Montevideo area schools to the new school complex at Elkton, as well as Elkton Middle School.

McCain looks confident; Democratic race tightens

I think that this will continue to drag on. There are some in the Democratic Race that would rather sacrifice the life and momentum of the party for their own selfish dream. The test of character and motives will take place tomorrow night once all of the votes are in regarding who is a real Democrat.

John Mcain will gain all of the delgates needed and Oh how happy they will be that the Democrats are still inhouse fighting. I will be glad when this is all over. I am simply sick of it!

Huge deal, quantity wise between the Cavaliers, Bulls, and Sonics today. Minor deal quality wise. A trade between two teams in a division usually means the lesser of two teams is giving up, and since the Bulls couldn't even beat the Jason-Kiddless Nets, it appears that they are indeed giving up. But when you're giving up, don't you want to plan for the future? How does giving up a draft pick help you at all in this situation? The Cavaliers Get: Bulls F/C Ben Wallace Bulls F Joe Smith Bulls 2009 2nd-round pick Sonics F Wally Szczerbiak Sonics G Delonte West Two guys from the Sonics that will definitely be improvements over Drew Gooden and Larry Hughes, who aren't very good at all, and Ben Wallace will step up his game against the Pistons and Pistons only, which will help in the playoffs, at least.
