REMEMBERING YESTERYEAR: Benjamin Long Rand's home has lots of history
In the original photographs one can see that there was a second story transom window located in the middle portion of this bay. It appears that this window was glazed with ornate leaded glass. Today, there is no window in this location. Also typical of the Queen Anne style is the polygonal tower just behind the front corner that rises from the ground level. The front of this home has a unique arched window in the cellar that may have been used to move coal or oil into the cellar for heating. There is an interesting folklore rumor surrounding this window. Allegedly there was a time in the Rand Co. history when their workers were attempting to unionize, which the Rands opposed as they did not want unions to be part of their business. It is said that someone, presumably an employee, fired a warning shot into this basement window in an attempt to pressure the Rand's into unionizing.
Love on the Rocks
What's happened now?“It's all because I live alone," she was beginning to sound dangerously close to sobbing now. “I expect this guy (boyfriend) to be with me every evening. So whenever he goes off on his boys' nights out, I get damn pissed off. He called me just now to say that he won't be able to spend the evening with me. Guess why?" “Because he's going out with the boys?" “Yes. I've asked him to take a walk. Let him figure out (while he's walking) how much he needs me." “It's not really over then?" “No, no, this time I'm determined to call it off... I want to be strong and independent, it's Women's Day on 8 March." Good luck, I said. She called back 15 minutes later. “I'm feeling lonely, can you come over and give me company? I've made dal-chawal for dinner." Oh, all right, I said, pulling out my running shoes.

Travel-Spring break: Beaches, parties, slopes, and more
NEW YORK (AP) Spring break can mean partying in Cancun or volunteering in New Orleans. But it can also mean late-season skiing or even birdwatching. Here are some spring break ideas. BOOKING: You get the best value and choice booking three to four months ahead. But you can still plan plenty of last-minute trips. Flying on weekdays and staying four rather than seven days increases your last-minute options for flights and lodging, according to Amanda Webb of STA Travel. Most college spring breaks fall between March 8 and 22. Not surprisingly, that's when airfare peaks, according to Farecast.com, a travel search site. The Web site's research found fares average $294 to Las Vegas, $270 to Orlando, $314 to Miami, and $350-$500 for Mexico and the Caribbean. Farecast.com says if you're not bound to the college calendar, you'll save money vacationing at the end of February or in April.
Automated Killer Robots ‘Threat to Humanity’: Expert
If you murdered your neighbor and stole his property could that be described as 'winning". When you start out with an evil premise there is no way to turn it respectable. I am disturbed at the continuing dehumanization of this murdering. The same stuff they use on them can be used on us. Most of the people they are killing are innocent. They do have the right to defend themselves against imperial occupiers. Anyone who opposes them they call terrorists. Are you a terrorist? The real terorists are the ones who launched this illegal war based on lies. .

AC on cold morning leads to Estates grow-house bust
N.E. Earlier this month a deputy on patrol noticed that an air conditioning unit was in use at the house on a cold morning. As the deputy approached the residence, he could smell the odor of growing marijuana. The house appeared to be vacant at the time. Around 10 a.m. Thursday, a blue Nissan Pathfinder driven by Puentes left the house, traveling 51 mph on Eighth Avenue Northeast, where the posted speed is 35 mph. Deputies pulled over the Pathfinder and while speaking to Puentes could smell a strong odor of marijuana on his clothing. Deputies asked Puentes if he lived at 1781 8th Ave. N.E. and Puentes said that he used to live there. Deputies asked Puentes if they could follow him back to the house, and he agreed. A search of the house turned up an active marijuana growing operation.
