Analysis: Nabucco gets boost

The company that's building the pipeline applied for exemption from the general rule of regulated third-party access in Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Austria, though which the pipeline would pass. EU laws permit such exemptions.

"The safeguards to which the exemption is subject include a capacity cap preventing a dominant undertaking from booking more than half of the Nabucco exit capacity in Austria and rules to ensure a transparent and non-discriminatory capacity allocation to third parties," the EC said in a statement.

This is the latest good news for the pipeline, which announced last week that German utility RWE would join the project.

"Nabucco clearly has strong political support but it's been missing a heavyweight downstream component and it has that in RWE," Simon Blakey, a senior director at Cambridge Energy Research Associates, told United Press International in a telephone interview last week.

Male Fertility May Be Harmed By Mix Of Endocrine Disrupters

ScienceDaily (Feb. 26, 2008) — Endocrine-disrupting chemicals, which are harmless individually in small doses, can together be a dangerous cocktail. Concurrent exposure to several endocrine-disrupting substances may, among other things, result in malformed sexual organs. Risk assessments of chemical substances should therefore take potential cocktail effects into account.

Trialist wants to stay

Cheltenham trialist Sean Evans has revealed he is interested in joining the Robins on a permanent basis in the summer.

The 20 year old has been on trial with the club for the last week and scored the winning goal in the County Cup game with Bishops Cleeve in the week.

The player will be released by Manchester United at the end of the season and he says he would like to join Cheltenham after seeing how things are run.

He told the Gloucester Echo: "I have really enjoyed this week and the camaraderie in the squad is superb so this would be an ideal starting block for my career. It's up to the manager, but if he thinks I am good enough I would be very keen to come to an agreement."

The left winger admits he always faced an uphill task establishing himself at Old Trafford but is now looking forward to a fresh start at a new club.

Updated: When Good Interviews Go Bad

We love the band Sigur Ros.

Their music is beautiful and moving, so much so that it doesn't matter that they're singing in a totally made-up language. Sigur Ros is four lads from Iceland, and recently, they were in New York to screen a new concert film Heima at the New Yorker Festival. Their P.R. folks called and asked if we wanted them on the show, to which we quickly replied, "hells yeah".

Anyway, last Friday the band showed up promptly at 11am (EDT) and commenced to give what is possibly the worst interview in the history of electronic media.

Seriously.

It was that bad.

We're not sure if they were tired, or if it was a language thing, or what... but wow. (UPDATE: Music journalist Jancee Dunn sorts through the interview's wreckage.)

Whereas most shows would just bury an interview like that, we've decided to actually show it to you.

Boca Pharmacal gets OK for allergy drug

Boca Pharmacal said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has given it final approval too market a generic version of Pamlab's Palgic oral solution, which treats allergic rhinitis, commonly called hay fever.

The Coral Springs-based developer and distributor of generic drugs said it will launch its product immediately.

Boca Pharmacal said the approval came out of its filing of an abbreviated new drug application. The company said it expects many similar applications to be approved in 2008.

"This approval is another example of our commitment to providing affordable drug products to customers and consistent innovation in the pharmaceutical industry," Chief Executive Officer Robert J. Edwards Jr. said in a news release. "At Boca Pharmacal, we pride ourselves on our ability to offer lower-volume items that may have been overlooked by some of the larger generic companies."
